Guatemala Team Update #3

We woke up to an absolutely beautiful morning in Guatemala, and were able to see the beauty of God’s creation around our resort. Our team breakfast was great- and let it be noted that the coffee here is AMAZING! With Pastor John on the team, it’s very important.

The church we were to visit for Sunday Morning Worship changed their service times- so we were able to have our own team church service. Heidi led us in an awesome time of worship, and we tuned into RFBC’s service. One of the songs we sang was "May The People’s Praise You" and one of the parts of the song says this:

All the earth is Yours and all within, each harvest is Your own

And from Your hand we give to You to make Christ known

May the seeds of mercy grow in us, for those who have not heard

May songs of praise build lives of grace to spread Your Word

These words are perfect for our mission on this trip. We are praying for God’s mercy to fill us up so that we may proclaim His gospel to those who have not heard and to spread His praise to all. Pray that we have an abundance of moments to be praising the Lord and sharing to all of those who have not heard.

After our team worship service, as a team, we came together to organize all of the supplies; from school supplies, hygiene supplies, VBS materials, as well as preparing crafts, verses, lessons, and songs for the days to come. It was a time of team building, problem solving, and many, many laughs!

We had about an hour of free time which many of the young members took advantage of the hotel pool to cool off!

Our lunch was at Pollo Campero, and it was delicious!! (Make sure you ask Abel about the chicken- he can’t stop talking about it!) We then headed to our partner church that we will be serving alongside of- Emaus Church. We were immediately greeted by Pastor Hamid and his wife, and he was able to share his testimony as to how he was brought to Emaus Church.

We had a wonderful church service with the members of the church. Although we may not understand the words they are singing, we know our God can understand all the worship we pour out together.

On their screen  they had this:

¡Mirad cuán bueno y

cuán delicioso es

Habitar los hermanos juntos en armonía!

Salmos 133:1

Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!

How true that verse is. Yes, we have a language barrier with these members of the church - but through our Savior, we are brothers and sisters in Christ- and together we can worship together.

Abel brought a great message about how we are spiritually empty and cannot save ourselves, and no one can fill us but God. We reflected tonight from Abel’s message asking ourselves where do we go when we have time of trouble, because we have to be going to the Lord.

We had a delicious dinner with the church made by Pastor Hamid’s wife. After wonderful fellowship, we traveled back to our hotel. It was a late night, but it was a full, and wonderful day! We have a very early morning, so we are praying for a full night's rest so we can be ready for an exciting day tomorrow!

One last prayer request-

Please keep in mind that when we speak about everything we are doing as a TEAM , that ALWAYS includes our Guatemalan interpreters, drivers, and leaders. Please pray for us as we are mindful that we are ministering to them and working to have meaningful and gospel-filled conversations with them as well. We have made great connections with them and we are growing closer to them, and we want to make sure we don’t leave this trip without having shared the gospel with them.
