There are many texts in the Bible that encourage us to diligently and consistently read, study, memorize and meditate on the Word of God.
Often Psalm 19:7-11 comes to my mind when I think of how important God’s Word is to our daily lives.
The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;
The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;
The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold,
Yea, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
Moreover by them Your servant is warned,
And in keeping them there is great reward.
God’s Word indeed is powerful and as Hebrews 4:12 says, It is living – alive. Jesus said in John 6:63b, “The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.”
I’m convinced that the most productive, rewarding and important thing we can do each day is to take time to read and meditate on God’s Word. That’s why I’m encouraging all our church members and friends to make and take the time every day to systematically read through the Bible. I have posted a Bible reading schedule on our website, www.rainbowforest.com. If you follow it, in a year’s time, you will read the Old Testament once, the New Testament twice, Psalms twice and Proverbs 12 times.
The passage the Lord seemed to lay on my heart to challenge our church with for the first year of a new decade is found in Philippians 2:14-16, “Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.”
It is my prayer that we truly can be a people of God that are living blameless lives, shining in the darkness around us by holding fast to the Word of Life! Please join me and hundreds of others who can and will make an eternal difference in our generation, not only in our community but around the world!!!
God bless,
Pastor Mike
